10 makeup tips :)

Yo~ as a makeup artist I would love to share some makeup tips today. I won't call myself a pro makeup artist until 10-20 yrs later lol, anyway I just love sharing whatever I know, wish my tips help!

p/s: I may be wrong sometimes, but remember to keep improving ourselves, that's the key to be better and better!

warning~! a Long Long post ahead lol, enjoy reading!

Tip 1:
I bet nobody wanna see their face to appear ghostly on the photos after makeup but a lot of people do not realize that high SPF foundation/powder reflects light. Please go for the options below if you wanna look great in photographs!
Note: Talc in powder is possible to make you appear whiter in photographs too.
-high definition foundation (this is the best choice :) it gives flawless & natural finish & it can withstand bright or harsh lighting)
- foundation with NO titanium oxide/ low spf (this ingredient reflects a lot of white light, however you might find a lot of foundations stated :MAY CONTAIN TITATNIUM OXIDE but there is no SPF stated on the packaging)
foundation which is 1 tone darker than your skin color (so you appear less white on the photographs, however avoid darker foundation if you only wear for daily look)
Examples of the brand(only HD foundations):
Make Up For Ever High Definition Foundation
Revlon Photo Ready Foundation (it is SPF 20 but no worries because this product is specially formulated for high-definition camera lens so you won’t look like a ghost in photos!)
Graftobian Hi Def Glamour Creme and Theatrical Foundations (I heard that it's coming to Malaysia!)
SASA HD Perfect Foundation (not for oily skin lol)

Tip 2:
For oily skin user, please blot oil before you powder your face(after foundation), it removes excess oil & shine on your face to avoid cakey looking makeup.

Tip 3:
Use a foundation brush/sponge/fingers for your liquid/cream foundation application? Each of the way is creating different finish on the skin!
Foundation brush: gives airbrush natural look, ultimate coverage.
Sponge: Light/Sheer finish on the skin, great even coverage. Using sponge you can blend the foundation easily but it absorbs more foundation which is kinda wasteful.
Fingers: no cost involved, you can use it anytime and anywhere. Warm up your foundation using fingers so that the warmth of the fingers help to melt foundation into skin better.
For me I prefer using a foundation brush to apply foundation, besides that, stippling brush is very good in giving an airbrush finish look, try MAC Stippling brush (MAC 187 is priced at RM180) if you don't mind to invest in a good quality brush! I love Lancome foundation brush & Lancome stippling brush but they are not available in Malaysia, how sad!

Tip 4:
Use under eye concealer for concealing dark circles! Don't apply foundation over your under eyes as your eye area is fragile & sensitive! You don't need extra burden on your eyes, just go for a good under eye concealer and then set it with translucent loose powder! Never set it with pigmented powder as it makes your underneath eyes look tired.

Tip 5:
Shop in daylight when you are buying your foundation, test your foundation at the jawline. Besides choosing the shade you think might be right for you, you should choose another two shades which are in lighter shade & darker shade to test and compare them at the jawline; the correct shade will blend easily into your skin tone. Make sure the foundation shade blends well with the skin tone on your neck, you don't want to look like as if you are wearing a mask (too white/too dark) on your face! (imagine the face and neck color looks different from each other?) However you can chose a foundation which is SLIGHTLY fairer because when your foundation oxidize it will make your skin looks darker!

Tip 6:
Who doesn't want to look good with makeup? Begin your makeup with a clean and moisturized face! Choose the makeup base/primer according to the need of your skin, apply makeup base before foundation helps your foundation to last longer, makeup application will be easier too when you prepare your skin well before that.
Makeup primer types & purposes:
green makeup base (neutralize the redness on your face)
purple/pink makeup base (brighten dull face)
mattifying makeup primer (oil & shine control)
hydrating makeup primer (best for normal/dry skin, provides moisture to skin)
etc.

Tip 7:
Long-lasting lip color?
-Use matte lipstick because the color is dense and it is less moisture. However matte lipstick is not suitable for dry lips as it is very drying.
-You can help your lip color to last longer by blotting the lips with tissue after the 1st layer of lip color application and then reapply the lip color again.
-You can also apply a thin layer of foundation on your lips before applying lip color as it improves the staying power of the color.
-Apply natural color of lip liner following the natural shape of the lip and completely fill in the lips and blend it. The lip liner acts as a lip base to hold the lip color which you goin to apply on top of it.
-Lightly dust powder/blush on top of your lip color will also keep your lip color to last longer.

Tip 8:
Afraid of tweezing your brow hair? Come on, it's not hard and actually you don't feel pain too if you know how to do it in a correct way! According to Bobbi Brown, tweezing after the shower is less painful.(try it!) Another method is using an ice cube to massage over your brow area lightly to numb the area so you feel less pain during tweezing. Always remember to tweeze according to the the hair growth direction, use a white eyeliner pencil to do marking on the area you wanna tweeze to avoid over tweezing!

Tip 9:
How to catch eye shadow flakes on the face? Add extra loose powder under your eyes before you apply eye shadow, this will help to catch the falling eye shadow/mascara and you can use a fan brush to sweep away the shadow flakes when you're done with your eye shadow application.

Tip 10:
Eyes look dull? Brighten up your eyes with these simple steps!
-conceal the dark circles (remember to conceal close to the lash line)
-use white/peach color liner to line your water line
-highlight your brow bone, inner conner of the eyes and centre of the upperlid by using light color (white works best & it looks more natural)
-define your eyebrow, curl your lashes & put on mascara~!
